The Brigham City Museum of Art & History is currently accepting artist submissions for small exhibitions of 3D works of art to be held in 2018, 2019, and 2020. Proposals may include solo or group exhibitions.
The Brigham City Museum of Art & History is Northern Utah’s art, history, and culture hub. In the museum’s changing exhibitions gallery, 5-7 exhibitions a year are held, including traveling exhibitions from major national institutions, as well as exhibitions curated by the museum’s staff. The museum’s outstanding collection covers more than 150 years of the history of Box Elder County with more than 10,000 objects. The growing art collection includes more than 300 pieces by outstanding artists, including Florence Ware, David Howell Rosenbaum, E.J. Bird, J.T. Harwood, Mabel Frazer, Russell Case, and more.
The museum is part of the Box Elder Museum of Art, History, and Nature. The mission of the Box Elder Museum of Art, History, and Nature is to collect, preserve, and interpret art and materials that tell stories of human experiences and of the land.
The museum is a place to engage with ideas, creativity, and heritage.
The exhibitions will accompany larger exhibitions composed primarily of two-dimensional works. The exhibition space includes 3 large cases (approximately 30” x 47” with vitrines that are 5”, 14”, and 15” high), 3 small square cases with vitrines that are 15” high, and 7 small square cases without vitrines. Please specify which cases you prefer to use. Vitrines are necessary for small, easily stolen items like jewelry, but large, heavy items can be shown without the vitrines on some or all cases. Free-standing and pedestal works must be stable. Installation of large-scale works, works over 50 lbs., or works needing specialized equipment, or complex installation and assembly may require on-site installation by the artist. Neither ceiling-suspended nor wall-mounted works are allowed.
Criteria for Selecting Exhibitions
The quality of each artist's work will be evaluated in regard to:
• Overall balance and consistency of the work shown
• Clarity of the stated intention and focus of the proposed exhibition
• Cohesiveness of the stated intention and how that translates into the actual work
• Compatibility of the exhibition within the annual exhibition schedule
Special consideration will be given to exhibition proposals that include community engagement programming for events where artists directly connect with the community. Include details regarding proposed community engagement programs that you will facilitate during the exhibition. This can include formal presentations (artist’s talks, lectures, artist's tour, panel discussion), artist’s demonstrations, performances, hands-on workshops, community art projects, etc.

Shipping, Insurance, and Sale of Artwork
Artists are responsible for the delivery and pick-up of all artwork to the Brigham City Museum of Art & History in Brigham City, Utah. The artist(s) will be responsible for insuring work during delivery, shipping, and loading to and from the Museum. Works are insured by the Museum while on the premises of the Museum only. Artists are required to sign a Loan Agreement if accepted. The Museum will use images for media and publicity purposes. Artists may assist with installation and de-installation (required if especially fragile, heavy, or difficult).
Work may be for sale. All sold works must remain on display in the gallery for the duration of the exhibition. The Museum receives a commission of 30% for all works sold as a result of the exhibition. Payment will be mailed to the artist within 30 days of the exhibition closing.
The Museum will promote the exhibit via our website, e-newsletter, in press releases sent to the media, and in various marketing materials. Any related press releases, marketing, grant applications, etc. done by the artist must be approved by the Executive Director. All images entered will be considered available for marketing purposes.
If the exhibition requires significant materials, equipment, travel or freight costs, it is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure these costs can be met.
The museum must approve any deviation from the original exhibition proposal.
· Exhibition statement (approximately 500-1,000 words, the exhibition proposal should explain to the curator 1) what is the message of your work and/or the message of the entire group exhibition, including subject matter, meaning, motivation, influences, processes, and techniques. 2) the reasons why your exhibition will attract visitors to the Museum and 3) why your proposal should be selected for display at the Museum);
· What you would like to accomplish by having a project or exhibition in the Museum;
· Curriculum Vitae of artist(s);
· Digital images of proposed or recent work (including title, medium, date, and size) -- rename image files to include image number (corresponding to Artwork List), artist name, and artwork title. Sample: 01_John_Smith_Horizon. Individual artists may submit up to 15 images
· Artwork List (PDF or Microsoft Word document) Provide a numbered list (numbers must correspond to image file names for images uploaded) with details for each artwork image: artist name, artwork title, year created, media, dimensions (height x width x depth), and sales price. (The Museum retains 30% for sales of works of art). Sample: 01.John Smith, “Horizon,” 2014, silver and turquoise, 1x1x1 inches, $200;
· If there is a specific time frame in which you would like this exhibition (e.g. specific theme month or anniversary period) and any restrictions concerning scheduling (travel, work, school, etc.);
· Contact information; and
· Additional information may include: introductory text panels, graphics, or existing visuals; educational materials for teachers, students, and visitors; press release; and history of the proposed works.
